Before You Arrival

Encouraging Study Abroad

Taiwan’s wall sockets are the same as the two flat prong sockets used in the United States, and offer 110 V, 60 Hz. So, if you are coming from a country that uses 220/240V, 50 Hz, your appliances may not work in Taiwan with out an adapter.

Currency

Mobile phone service provided in Taiwan is mainly based on GSM. One CDMA provider and one PHS provider are also available. Many international students prefer to use internet telephony (like Skype), but contracts and pre-paid phone cards are still advised. Most telecommunication companies will not accept your business until you acquire your Alien Resident Certificate (ARC).

Climate & Clothing

Tainan lies in a sub-tropical climate zone, with hot summers and cool winters. From April to October, the weather of Tainan is summer like. The hottest part of the year is from July to August. The rainy season is from May to October.

Last year, the annual average temperature in Tainan was 24.9°C (76.8°F). The summer months usually top out in the mid to high 20s (high 80s and low 90s), but the humidity is high, so it feels hotter and stickier than it actually is.
